Queens Garden / Navajo: plan the whole loop

01The route in useful numbers

The NPS describes the combination as a moderate 2.9-mile (4.6 km) hike, with approximately 625 feet (191 m) of elevation gain and an estimated two to three hours. Those figures describe the published route, not a promise about your pace. Read the official route guide and check current conditions before choosing it.

02Understand how the pieces connect

The recommended clockwise direction descends Queens Garden from Sunrise Point and climbs the Navajo side to Sunset Point; the rim section connects the two viewpoints. The Two Bridges and Wall Street branches are not interchangeable in every season. Wall Street closes in freezing conditions. Confirm which branch is open and follow the current park advice rather than a saved social-media route.

03Do not use the descent as the fitness test

Talk through the whole outing before you start: the pace of the slowest walker, the climb at the end, the forecast and the time you want to be back. If the group is uncertain, choose a rim visit first. You can have a memorable Bryce day without committing to a descent simply because a trailhead is nearby.

04Pack for the hike you chose

• Water and food for your own party.
• Footwear and clothing matched to actual conditions.
• The current route information available offline.
• A clear return arrangement and time margin.
• A willingness to change the plan before the descent.

Check the park’s current guidance on equipment and access; an estimated duration should never be the only basis for preparation.

05Keep the rest of the day light
