There are so many things to do in the area around Fosters Motel that there may not be enough time in one or even two days to see all of the amazing sites. We invite you to stay multiple days in order to fully experience the beauty of Bryce Canyon and the other attractions listed below.

First DayYou have to experience Bryce Canyon first, it is that unique.
The amazing orange/red color of the out-of-this-world formations called Hoodoos (Who-do-s) will make you fill at least one memory card for your camera. These amazing canyons and amphitheaters were formed from wind and water erosion over millions of years. The hiking trails in Bryce range from easy to strenuous.  Remember that you are up over 9,000 feet in elevation so take it easy.  Take your time and wander the trails at a relaxed pace, many of the trails can be combined to make a longer excursion. Click here for more details about the trails in the park. One note, pets are not allowed on the unpaved park trails so plan ahead.  The chance of running into wildlife along the trails is high so remember to take pictures but please do not feed the animals.

2nd Day – Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
(Travel Time from Fosters 40 Min)
This 1.7 million acres, was designated a National Monument in 1996 by President Clinton. This is rugged terrain ranging from high plateaus to huge painted cliffs to desert valleys and slot canyons.

Located in the western part of the monument Kodachrome Basin State Park is very close to Bryce Canyon National Park and the logical place to start day to on your exploration of Southern Utah’s wonder.  Kodachrome Basin lets you walk, hike or ride horseback through some amazing geologic wonders. Originally this area was filled with geysers that created incredible stone towers. You will see arches, caves, and sun baked canyons along your way. There are even wagon trails that you can ride along recreating the old west exploration. The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is managed by the  Bureau of Land Management rather than the National Park Service so be prepared for additional fees not covered by a national parks pass.  Take lots of water and remember  you are in the high desert so use plenty of sunscreen, drink often and respect the weather!

3rd DayZion National Park.  (Travel Time from Fosters 40 Min)
Zion is truly the crowning jewel of the Southwest. You may want to extend your itineraries and allow for 2 or 3 days just for Zion.
Zion National Park has two main canyons that are accessible by vehicles. The main canyon is only accessible by foot, bike or electric tram service.
Popular attractions that you don’t want to miss on your visit to Zion include:  Angels Landing, Weeping Rock, Emerald Pools, Temple of  Sinewava, Checker Board Mesa, Walters Wiggles and of course the ever famous Zion Narrows.  If you plan to extend your stay be sure to inquire about available back country areas. The Subway, Orderville canyon and West Rim Trail are some of but many of the natural wonders that keep visitors coming back to Zion National Park year after year. Click Here for more activities available in Zion.

4th DayGrand Canyon North Rim
(Travel Time from Fosters 2.5 hours)
Half the fun of visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is getting there! Scenic highway 89 lives up to its name on this drive. Pink Sand dunes and desert vistas used in many western movies give way to cool Ponderosa Pine forests as you gain elevation. Mule deer, Kaibab squirrels and wild turkey are in abundance as you reach the plateau.
Most of the views at the rim are along paved walking paths and view points created for guest’s safety.  There are plenty of trails and opportunities to venture down into the canyon. Remember, if you go down the trail you have to go back up again. Pace your self and be sure to hydrate regularly and have an adequate water supply with you at all times. Make sure you have plenty of space on your camera for the majesty of the canyon and its surroundings are anything but inspiring.

5th Day Nice and Easy
After 4 days of hitting the Big Ticket attractions its time for a slower paced day discovering lesser known treasures.  This time we will use the vehicle to get us there and back.

Scenic Highway 12 / Calf Creek / Devils Garden / Capitol Reef National Park.

Highway 12 is rated in the top 3 scenic drives in North America. As you are traveling it toward Capitol Reef National Park you will see for yourself why it was ranked so high.  During your drive you will encounter Calf Creek Falls. It is well worth the stop. An easy round trip walk reveals pictographs, waterfalls and some unbelievable narrow slot canyons.
Continuing north on Hole-in-the-Rock road (yes, that is really its name) comes Devils Garden. When you see the hobgoblin formations you will understand the name. Make the stop. Take lots of pictures as these formations are one-in-a-million.  Finally you arrive at Capitol Reef National Park. You will love that you can drive to the various arches and formations. Enjoy the scenery on the way back. This area of the world treats you to fabulous views coming and going.

6th Day - Panguitch, Panguitch Lake, Brian Head, Cedar Breaks.
Panguitch, Utah is just a hop, skip and a jump from Fosters. This town is what we like to call quaint. It is small, full of history and quiet. It is also the best place to get geared up for a day of fishing at Panguitch Lake. Rent a boat and try your hand at fishing or just quietly motor around the lake relaxing in the cool pines.

Heading west from Panguitch Lake you will run into Cedar Breaks National Monument. Cedar Breaks is like a mini Bryce Canyon.  You won’t have hiking access like Bryce but it is well worth the stop. Listen to the rangers’ presentation and edge out to the rim for some fantastic photo opportunities. Brian Head Resort is practically next to the monument if you want to try some incredible mountain bike trails. If you forgot to bring your bike you can rent some at Brian Head

Make your stay complete by visiting all of the beautiful national parks in the area. The main attractions are Zion National Park, Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon.
